The Massachussets Government Act

The democracy was something that started a long time ago with the Romans. It came since the Roman empire and the colonies had a sort of idea of what was democracy. The colony of Massachusetts was one that specially knew this, therefore they respected it. However, Parliament passed an Act that abolished the democratic representation that existed in this colony, it was known as the Massachusetts Government Act and it was passed on May 20, 1774. This was a move made by the Parliament because they feared the loss power over the colonies, and this was a real threat due that colonists started to trade at a high rate and this brought profits and a certain freedom due that they didn´t depended completely on the Empire. The Act rejected the popular elections of their representatives and enforced the council members to be appointed by the king. It increased the number of members from 12 to 36. It also prohibited the popular meetings and only granted permission to do it once a year, specifically in March and May. The Act is known as one of the Intolerable Acts in the history of the History of The United States Of America.
